Etobicoke Olympium Kendo / Iaido club
Founded in December 1981 by Shigetaka Kamata Sensei and Koki Ariga Sensei, EOKIC is a volunteer-run not-for-profit martial arts club offering instruction in two distinct Japanese martial arts disciplines: Kendo and Iaido.
As a member of the Canadian Kendo Federation and the Ontario Kendo Federation, EOKIC is a recognized leader for its dedication to training and promoting quality Kendo & Iaido in Canada.
Kendo (剣道, the ‘Way of the Sword’) is a Japanese martial art tracing its roots to the samurai traditions of Japan. Our Kendo program instills values of respect, discipline, mental toughness, and physical fitness to practitioners of all ages, from children as young as six to seniors well into their 70s. Through structured practice and competition, members develop resilience, character, and an appreciation for Japanese culture.
Iaido (居合道) is Japanese martial art that is deeply meditative and technically precise practice involving the drawing, use, and re-sheathing of the Japanese sword. Our Iaido program follows the prestigious Muso Shinden Ryu tradition, and cultivates focus, composure, and an appreciation for Japanese martial arts tradition.
